About a month ago, I decided to try the espressos at Downbeat Café and they were closed. Not being a regular, I checked the hours posted on the door for the time they would be open and I had arrived thirty minutes early. I hung outside waiting 30 minutes knowning full well that they wouldn't open on time because, well, I guess I had tried to stop by on another occasion and they'd been closed. It's not until today that I decide to call them to see what's up. The message on their machine says something about repairs. I search google and find that they place nearly burned down. You'd think that they would have a sign on the door explaining this. I remember growing up in this neighborhood and my mother taking me to this very building to buy me shoes.
