Scene One

INT. OFFICE - DAY

Sometimes when early arrivers to the office have a few minutes of lag time before clocking in, the conversations between co-workers can be not safe for work. The following conversation takes place in normal tone, yet with a tinge of effort to not be overheard. While early arrivers to the office know they are alone, there is always that unexpected surprise of possibility that somebody, somewhere happened to be within range.

CALINDRA

What!? Why would you ask me to get you this shit?!

IAN

I never suggested you should front the money for me.

(TO SELF)

The god honest truth is I didn't think you'd be able to pull it off.

CALINDRA

What!!!? Yes you did! You don't do that kind of shit! You asshole. Fuck you!

IAN

You're crazy if that's what you think happened. You've been hounding me to get that stuff off your hands since last week. The deal was I would come up with twenty bucks for you and you would use that to score some weed.

(O.C.)

That'll be the day when you would agree to accept an I.O.U from me, you're so tight.

CALINDRA

Yesterday you told me to front you the money.

IAN

Yeah right. I also offered to write you a check. What I said was I would go to the ATM and withdraw some cash. As it happens I forgot. Okay? But I'm not gonna buy anything from somebody like you who imagines things like me saying to you 'Can you front the money for me?' You'd probably take something like that to mean go ahead and score 20 g's on all kinds of drugs.

CALINDRA

You don't do that kind of shit to somebody! Fuck off! You don't tell somebody to score weed for you and then not follow thru. You're an asshole! Don't talk to me anymore.

IAN

That's fine. So kill me. But if you're living in some other world where you think I would come to you, of all people, to buy shit from, I don't want to talk to you anymore.

(O.C.)

Psycho bitch.

CALINDRA

You aren't worth the effort to kill.

IAN

I thought this discussion was over. Wow, you must really be feeling rage. I remember feeling like that when I got stuck with an extra VIP ticket to see Metallica. Wow. Twenty dollars must really be putting a dent in your wallet.~

CALINDRA

Fuck you. You deserve how people treat you. You're a pitiful excuse for a man. No wonder you can't find friends to go to a concert with.

IAN

I'll choose that over living in a fantasy world in which you think you can swindle money out of people by suggesting you're going out of your way to tap your connections when you're really just trying to unload shit that you've already bought. You've been hounding me since last weekend. Then yesterday, again. You already had some stash. Making me think I asked you to front the money is so lame. It was fun to watch you struggle, but just as I can't get a reasonable response from you if I told you I forgot to withdraw the cash, I can't believe a word that comes out of your head about how and why you truly believe I asked for this shit.

Calindra stiffens in tension, almost as if she's reached the stage of rigormortis. Not even a breath of air can be detected entering or escaping her nostrils as she stares at Ian in disbelief.
